04/05/2007: "Paving Paradise"

I think after that first post it's time to quote Joni Michell.

They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique
And a swinging hot spot
Dont it always seem to go
That you dont know what youve got
Till its gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

They took all the trees
Put em in a tree museum
And they charged the people
A dollar and a half just to see em
Dont it always seem to go
That you dont know what youve got
Till its gone
They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot

Guess I'm just venting some anger here. I just hate to see what's become of Mammoth and it's people. When I first moved here Mammoth was still a quaint little mountain village. We enjoyed driving up there just to hang out. Not anymore.
I guess if there's any one thing that could get me to leave the Eastern Sierra it's the continued development of the area. And it's even sadder to think that it's not just going on in the Eastern Sierra. It's happening all over the Sierra. From the foothills to the forest. Guess nature will always give way to progress. At least until nature decides it's had enough!

Ok, I'll cheer up now.

All - cheer up! there always the chance, once "nature has had enough", that mammoth might still blow up! ;^)

Steve: I remember as a former member of the Chamber in Bishop, that we said we never wanted to see a McDonalds, Target, WalMart, etc., because of what it would do to local buisness owners. I remember when interest rates were 16% and keys to Condos in Mammoth were being thrown on my desk as attorneys and doctors were taking their belonging back to Orange County because of those high interest rates, and the geologists who were saying that there was a very good chance that Mammoth was going to blow its top! Well, now that I have also vented, I feel better!!
