Hey Bram,
I hope you have a great time here in the States. Yosemite should be awesome at the time you'll be here. And I do hope they get the roads open by then.
In answer to your question, no you shouldn't need chains anymore this year. But now don't get upset with me if a big storm come in and I'm wrong wink
But once May rolls in you are normally fine without chains in the mountains.
If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask.

I agree it is very disappointing to see the low miles plowed daily on Tioga Pass. If there is not much snow, I wonder what the hold up is? I know the NPS probably does not have the funding to operate the higher elevation early in the season. I don't understand why this is when Hwy 120 is a main artery. I would think that Caltrans should supplement the NPS and speed things up plowing wise. smile rolls eyes

Hey Steve,

Thank you for yr response. Have been to Yosemite twice sofar and it is absolutely fabulous. Envy you, living in or close to such magnificent part and park of the world. First time was March 2001 and Tioga R was closed, 2nd time was June 2001 and the road was open. Drove up to Mono Lake. A bit disappointing to read the last cryptical NPS update of 4/24 which indicates a plowing progress of only????? 2.3 miles in 1 day. When plowing continues in this speed, I fear the worst. Anyway let's hope for the best and not lose faith yet.

Greetz,

Bram
