04/29/2007: "Fishing Opener"

Well, Opening Day 2007 is over, and most of the fishermen have gone home with or without fish. As for me and my family, well.....

We went up to Twin Lakes outside of Bridgeport. I got one, my cousin got one, and my brother got four. They were all nice fish though. All were over a pound. I don't know how the opener went all around. I will know more on Tuesday when the paper comes out. It seemed like most people had fish up at Twin Lakes

Yesterday was more than the opening of fishing for my family though. Yesterday we put my dad's ashes where they belong, Twin Lakes. Along the shore of the lower twin we had a nice little ceremony and released his ashes. Twin Lakes was his favorite place in the world and it's where he wanted his ashes placed. We thought that opening day was the best day to do it. It was a wonderful experience. We each took a scoop of his ashes and released them were we wanted to. I put mine along the base of a young Jeffery Pine where they can be drawn into the tree. As long as that tree stands, part of dad will live on.

So this opening day was a very special on e to me. It will always be remembered.

I have enjoyed your site and your sharing of your life with us for quite a while. I was on the other side of Sonora pass that weekend, camping for the opener. May peace travel with you.

My father taught me flyfishing on the Upper Owens, it was his favorite place to be. It was his wish to have his ashes spread along the river, which I did after he died in 1974.I fish there 10-12 times every year, and always feel that dad is with me.

I know what a difficult time that had to be. It is truly a beautiful way for you to always have a fondness for your Sierras.

We don't know each other but I do read your page often.

That tree will only get stonger and will stand at attention every time you go to visit it......

That is awesome. We are so lucky to have such memories of the ones we love. I know I have great memories of both my Mom and Dad. They just loves the Sierras. Thank you for sharing your life and thoughts with us as it is a healing process for you and for us it also brings out feelings and memories. God Bless.
