Opening Day of Fishing

Tomorrow's the big day, opening day of the 2006 fishing season. One thing is for sure about this years opening, there is still a lot of snow out there. We took a drive up Bishop Creek a few days ago and there is still 5-6 feet of snow at Parchers Resort on the south fork.
Today we drove up to Twin Lakes out of Bridgeport, things there were looking very good. There isn't any snow in the campgrounds, but there is still quite a bit on the north facing canyon walls.
We also drove up to Lundy Lake, it is still frozen. We didn't do the June Lake Loop so i can't tell you about that. Crowley Lake looked good and I know Convict Lake is open. Any fishing that you plan on doing above 8000 feet is going to be in the snow.

I just took a look at the Yosemite News site and they don't have anything posted about when they will start the plowing of Tioga Road. I did see a note from the Forest Service in Lee Vining that the NPS would start plowing from the west on May 1st. We'll just have to wait and see about that.

For those that didn't keep track on their own while Sierravisions was down, this was another record snowfall season in the Sierra. Mammoth Mtn broke it's all time record for the second year in a row with a whopping 664 inches. 294 of those inches fell in March and April!! The old record was 607 inches and that was set last year.
Yosemite is saying that the snowfall over 9000 feet in the park is 150% of normal as of April 5 and there have been storms since then so it may be higher than that now.

So I guess the hiking season in the backcountry will start a little later than normal this year. But if you're a spring skier then you are in heaven.

I won't be doing any fishing this weekend. I'm spending it helping my buddy Ron move his store (Mammoth Art Supply) sown here to Bishop. It will be located on Main Street just north of Line St. He is renaming it Bishop Art Supply. So make sure to stop in and say hey to Ron this summer. the store has plenty of goodies besides art supplies. Tell him I sent you big grin

Comments

If you'd like to leave comments, click the comments link at the bottom of the entry.
I am only going to have comments turned on for certain entries and only for those on the main page. You won't be able to leave comments in the archive. I'm doing this in order to cut down on the spam that started to plague the journal before.

Just noticed

I am noticing that there are still a few problems with links. I think that I got most of them, but there may still be some problems. I will check it out later and get the links fixed.

We're Back!!!!!!!

Howdee Doo!!
SierraVisions is back up and running!! big grin
After what seems like months (A little less than one month though) I have finally got everything fixed and I'm back to stay. Some of the problems were host problems, those have been taken care of because I changed host. And some of the problems were me. Those were taken care of by me finally calling Tech Support and finding out that I needed to give them some more info blush

But anyway, things are fixed. I even got the new and improved journal up and running. The next step is to get the galleries going and then everything will be normal again.

So Hi to everyone and thanks for sticking with me through the mess.
