New Images

Just added a few new images to the Visions Gallery. Most have been shot over the last couple weeks. The creek shots were shot last evening. I was playing around with the light on the canyon wall reflecting in the water. It's cool that this happens every evening. For some reason I never thought about trying to capture it until last evening as I was coming back from North Lake. I think I can get some nice shot once the trees start to change. I also think some wildflowers in the forground would look cool. It just goes to show you that even after 20 years of wandering Bishop Creek there are still new things to shoot.

Site rebuild

I am in the process of rebuilding SierraVisions. I know I had said earlier that I was going to redo the site. But after thinking about it and hearing some feedback from you guys, well I changed my mind. I decided that I like the look and feel of it. There may be some new things added here and there, but that's all.

What is changing though, is the code that makes the site work. I'm updating it so it will work and look better. What that means is that I'm rebuilding every page from the ground up. So if you come to the site and you see some things out of place or some fonts are the wrong size, it most likely means that I'm working on the page.

I just wanted to give you guys a heads up so that if things get wierd, you know why wink

Ads on the site

As you may have noticed, I have made a big decision about SierraVisions. There are now adds on it. I decided to do this when I came across an ad for Google ads. I checked it out and Saw that it is an easy way for make a few extra bucks without really hurting the look of the site. All of the ads are texed based, and all of them will be advertising things that are relavent to the site. If ads come up that don't have to do with the Sierra or nature and the mountains, I can block them so they don't appear anymore.

I hope you guys don't mind a few adds here and there. It will help bring in a little revenue for the site and I feel that it doesn't hurt the look or feel of the aite at all.

Summer/Fall in the Mountains

Just got back from a trip up to Lee Vining and then Rock Creek Lake. As I mentioned before, fall is beginning in the mountains. The signs are everywhere up there. Brown meadows, willows changing even more than last week, and then as we get to Rock Creek Lake, there before our eyes, the first aspens beginning to turn gold.

Don't believe me?

Then click this link and have a look for yourself; 1st Fall Colors of the Year

I know it's not much, but for me this is like the first pitch of Spring Training for a baseball fan. My favorite time of year has begun and it's only going to get better from here!! LOL

Now on the other hand there is Tammy. To her it's the beginning of the end. Summer is her favorite time of year. As I was grinning from ear to ear, she was pouting sad
And when we saw a beautiful bunch of Lupines in full bloom up the road, she said I needed to take a picture of them to show that summer is still here.

That's what's interesting about all of this though. There is no doubt that fall is beginning up in the high mountains. Yet summer is hanging on and there are still flowers blooming. And now that the temps. have become summer like again, who knows what's going to happen.
I do have gut feeling that an early fall is on the way though.

Web Cams, Fall Colors, and Photo Tours. Oh my!!

I just put up a new web cam on the cams page. It is of Grass Valley. Thanks to Kevin for sending it to me. If you guys have never been to Grass Valley and Nevada City then you are missing two of the jewels of the Sierra Foothill goldrush towns. They are both wonderful to visit.

Hey, about a month ago someone sent me a link for the new Tioga Pass Cam. It was during my down time and I must have deleted the email. If it was you, please resend me that link. I can't find it anywhere and I think the Virtual Yosemite link is an old picture. Thanks!!

Have you guys noticed the big new addition to the home page and the cams page?
Yep, I'm finally doing it. After years of saying that I was going to start fall photo tours, I have taken the plunge and I'm going for it. So if you are intrested or know of someone who might be, then check out all the info on the Eastern Sierra Fall Photo Tours page.
I could use a little help with some advertising for this too. So what I'm going to do is put up a link for the flyer I'm making, and if you guys could download it, print it, and pass it around to all you're friends and neighbors, that would be awesome. I would be eternaly greatfull to everyone that does that big grin

I took a little drive up Bishop Creek yesterday, and guess what? It's early autumn up there. Yep, some of the willows have started to change and the meadows are getting brown. It's been pretty cool up there at night. I've heard that it's been in the 30's. I know it's sure cooling down at night here. We have to close the bedroom windows now. The cool night air has been causing havoc with my sinuses.
This has been a very mild August so far. If fact, it's felt more like September. Highs have been in the low 90's and as soon as the sun goes down it's cooling off into the low 70's and 60's. What does this mean? Well I figure it means that we'll either have an early winter and the snow will dump in October, or we'll have highs in the 100's in Sept. and won't see any snow until January.
So in other words, I don't know what it means wink

I'll let you guys know when I get the flyer up. Any and all help is appreciated.

Fires

Just noticed a couple of fires in the Sierra on the National Fire News. They are both lightning caused and under control. Here is the info on them.

Maggie (Sequoia National Forest): 2,097 acres. This previously reported lightning-caused Wildland Fire Use (WFU) incident is being managed to accomplish resource objectives. The fire is burning eight miles north of Camp Nelson in red fir. Minimal fire activity was reported. This will be the last narrative report unless significant activity occurs.
This one could be where the smoke came from a couple days ago.

Frog Complex (Yosemite National Park): 715 acres. This lightning-caused Wildland Fire Use (WFU) incident is being managed to accomplish resource objectives. This complex consists of the Laurel, Frog, and Falls fires located 20 miles northwest of Yosemite Village. Backing fire was reported.

One more thing

Oh, one more thing.
I would like some input from you guys. SierraVisions is due for a huge makeover. I not only want to change the look, but I would like to add some new features to the site also.
That's where you guys come in. If you have any ideas about what you'd like to see on SierraVisions let me know about them by leaving a comment or emailing me. I'm totaly open to any ideas you guys might have. The only thing that I'm somewhat against is adding a discussion board. The reason is that I don't have the time or the ambition to monitor it. Now if someone out there would want to be in charge of the monoriting, I might consider it. But other than that I'm pretty open to ideas.
Let me know what you guys think.

Hello

Hi all.
It's been a long time, hasn't it?
Well Tammy and I have survived one of the toughest months of our life and it seems like things are getting back to normal. Let's hope so anyway. Dad is still hanging in there with his cancer, but it has gotten worse and that has put a lot of stress and presure on us. We have been doing some fishing and picture taking lately and that has helped a lot.

I have some new pictures up in the Newest Images Gallery. Hope you guys enjoy them.

Boy I don't have to much to talk about at the momment. I am totaly out of touch with any Sierra news. As I find out what's been happening I will let you guys know though.
One thing, last evening there was a lot of smoke coming over the mountains from the south-west. I will check the fire site and see if there is any news of where the fire is. I appeared to be coming over the crest from down around the Onion Valley area. I don't see any outside my window right now though.

One other thing, as those of you know that have been up here lately, the water in the creeks and rivers is still very high. Man it's been an amazing water year. The Owens River is still flowing over it's banks and flooding many of the low lying area along it's course. I have noticed a drop in some of the mountain streams the last week or so. But Bishop Creek is still cranking.
It's also been a very wet summer for the Bishop area. We have had many thunder storms and quite a bit of rain. And right now it feels more like September than August. The highs are in the low 90's and it has been quite chilly at night. Feels good to me, but Tammy is very bummed, she likes the heat.

Guess that's all for now. I will let you know if I find anything out about the smoke last evening.
