Storm Totals

Well it looks like our great first storm kind of lost it's greatness yesterday. From what I can see, the foot of snow that was predicted turned out to be about 3-6 inches. Mammoth is reporting 3 inches and the Tahoe resorts are saying about 2-6 inches. They are still forecasting up to 4 inches for today.

Storm

Winter Storm Warnings have been posted for most of the Sierra beginning tomorrow afternoon and continuing through Monday evening. 8-14 inches of snow are forecasted above 7000 feet. This storm will most likely close Tioga, Sonora, and Ebetts Passes for the winter.

Froecast for Sunday

This is from the NWS:

...COLD PACIFIC STORM TO AFFECT HOLIDAY TRAVEL SUNDAY AND MONDAY..

A DEVELOPING STORM IN SOUTHWEST CANADA IS FORECAST TO BRING SNOW
AND WIND TO THE SIERRA BY SUNDAY AFTERNOON...WITH POTENTIAL FOR
HEAVY SNOW AT TIMES FROM SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY. STRONG WINDS
WILL ACCOMPANY THE SNOW CAUSING CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING
SNOW OVER THE PASSES. A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL BRING MUCH COLDER
TEMPERATURES AND LOWER SNOW LEVELS BY LATE SUNDAY NIGHT...BRINGING
THE POSSIBILITY FOR SNOWFALL IN WESTERN NEVADA VALLEYS BY MONDAY

ANYONE TRAVELING IN THE SIERRA SUNDAY SHOULD PLAN TO HEAD OVER
THE MOUNTAIN PASSES DURING THE MORNING TO REDUCE THE RISK OF

Weekend Storm

I hadn't planned on writing today, but I just read the weather forecast and thought I'd let everyone know what's happening. There is a strong storm expected to move into the Sierra on Sunday and last through Monday. They are forecasting over a foot of snow for the Central and Northern Sierra.
So if you are heading into the mountains this weekend, be prepared for stormy conditions. They are also forecasting high winds so the snow will be blowing and visibility will be bad.
So there you go. I guess my "Think Snow" picture worked wink

Happy Thanksgiving Folks!!

Hello

Hi guys.
Just wanted to let you know that I'm still alive and kicking. I know it's been awhile since I updated things, but I have been very busy and just haven't got around to it. Plus there just isn't anything happening right now. No snow or storms to talk about and I haven't shot a picture since my Yosemite trip. Hopefully the weather will change soon. That always makes me more talkative.

One thing I did want to point out is about the cams links. It's the time of year when the ski areas put up their new web pages, and in the process they normaly change the webcams page address. So you may start seeing some dead links on the cams links. I will do an update on the page once the snow falls and the ski areas all open up. But until then, if you come across a dead link let me know about it. Thanks. And I already know about the Downtown Truckee link. I'm leaving it up in hopes that they fix it.

Weather update

There is a storm heading into the Sierra tonight and tomorrow. If you are heading this way for the holliday weekend, be prepared for winter driving conditions. Time to start carying those chains guys. The main snow fall is expected on Sat. with 3-6 inches likely over 7000 feet. You should also expect high winds in the mountains and in the Owens Valley starting this afternoon.

New Cams

Have I got a link for all of you Sierra web cam buffs out there.
Head on over to the cams page and check out the link to Sierra Wildland Fire Cams. There are 38 cams placed on fire lookout points all across the Southern Sierra. These cams show some very remote areas of the Sierra. I think these cams will be amazing this winter. At least if they keep working.
Thanks to Karl for finding this page and sending me the link.

SierraVisionsStock

I am proud to announce that SierraVisionsStock.com is now open and running. I just finished uploading the last photos minutes ago. At least the last in the first wave of photos. I still have a lot more to upload, but I now have enough up to open the site.
You can now purchase photos online as either fine art prints or as digital files. The digital files are available for download right after purchase.

This has been a dream of mine for a long time. It's taken a lot of long hours in front of this computer to make it happen. Now let's hope it's a success.
