Dreams of Mine

January 30th, 2008 Author: Steven

“Dreams of Mine”

To walk on a rainbow
Sprinkled with stardust
Off to the land of the leprechaun
And his pot of gold.

To hike with the angels
In their cloud mountain homes,
Meandering through meadows
Of snow flowers in the
Yosemite’s of the sky.

To sit with forest elves
Singing their tree top tunes
While sipping the cider of sequoia
And telling mountain tales.

To run my fingers
Through her long dark hair
As I stare into bright sparkle eyes.

These are dreams of mine.

The Weather Outside if Frightfull (Or maybe not)

January 30th, 2008 Author: Steven

More storms and snow in the Sierra. The five day forecast has snow everyday. These systems are colder and windier. Each one could produce up to a foot or more of new snow. There is currently a Winter Storm Watch for the Northern Sierra from Tahoe north for tomorrow. Up to a foot could fall at lake level with more at higher elevation.

The Mammoth Pass snow water content is now normal for the year. This last storm brought it up to the normal level.

Back here in Madison, we had a wicked little storm come through yesterday. At  12 yesterday it was 41 degrees and raining lightly. Around 3 the temp had dropped to 26 it was freezing rain and sleet and the wind was blowing. By 5 it was snowing and the temp was 19. By 8 the temp was 4 the snow had stopped but the wind was blowing hard. Over night the wind just howled and I had a low of -6. Our temp dropped 45 degrees in about 12 hours and we had wind chills around -50. And that wasn’t as drastic as some areas in the mid west. Pretty wild storm. At least the snow wasn’t as bad as first forecast. We only got about an inch.
And speaking of weather averages. Madison WI is 26 inches above our average snow fall for this season. I guess Wisconsin is welcoming me with a bang. The good news, if most years aren’t as snowy as this, then I think I can handle the winters. It’s these bitterly cold days that get to ya. Well soon I’ll be spending my days in a nice warm hospital.

Good News!!

January 28th, 2008 Author: Steven

Well guys, you get my undivided attention for one more week. Then things might slow down a bit around here because after 8 weeks of searching, I finally got a job. I was just offered it today and I grabbed it with both hands and wrapped my arms around it tight so it couldn’t escape :-) It’s at Meriter Hospital here in Madison. I will be working in the linen supply department. I applied for the job 14 days ago, had an interview two days later and got it today. I am so relieved!! I don’t know how many apps I filled out online and most of them were a waste of time because I never even got emails saying thanks for applying.

I will be working days, Monday-Friday with rotating weekends and holidays. I don’t mind the weekends because I’ll make two bucks more an hour for them and holidays are time and a half so no worries there. I think the hours are 6:30-3:30. So since it will be 1:30 in Cal when I get off work,  site updates won’t be to late.

Now I feel that my new life has really begun.

Quick Storm Update

January 28th, 2008 Author: Steven

Just a quick update here. Look like the mountains have received from 3-4 feet of new snow from this storm. Some areas a little more than others. It’s still snowing right now, but is supposed to taper off by afternoon. Mono and Inyo Counties are still under Winter Storm Warnings, but only until 10 this morning.
