This is from the Yosemite News Release site:

Date: April 29, 2008

Yosemite National Park Superintendent Mike Tollefson announced today that the Glacier Point Road is expected to open to visitors Friday, May 2, 2008 at noon. Glacier Point is located about 30 miles from Yosemite Valley off the Wawona Road, the section of State Highway 41 inside the park. Restrooms along the road and the Glacier Point Snack Stand will be open to visitors on Friday as well. Additionally, the Mariposa Grove Road opened on April 26, 2008 for vehicles under 24 feet in length and under 7 tons. These temporary restrictions are due to continuing wet and icy conditions on the road.

No date has been determined for the opening of Bridalveil Creek Campground.

Roadways may be wet due to ice and melting snow and wildlife is very active on the Glacier Point Road. Visitors are advised to drive with caution.

An opening date for the Tioga Road (Highway 120 outside the park) which crosses the Sierra Nevada through Yosemite National Park, has yet to be determined.

The plowing updates aren’t coming very fast this year, but at least we’re getting some.
The latest report is dated the 26th, it says that they are now at Olmsted Point and the snow depth is 6 feet. Looks like they made good progress last week. They are now into the bad avalanche areas, so things may slow down a bit this week.

Opening Day

From what I’m reading online, it sounds like it was a decent opening day of fishing in the Eastern Sierra. The weather was about as nice as it could get, which is always a good thing on opening day. Sounds like a lot of trout were caught and I’m sure good times were had by all.

Here are a couple articles that I’ve found this morning.

Perfect conditions greet anglers at trout opener

Fishing hot on trout opener, even on ice

I’ve also found a pretty cool site that will be helpful to many fishermen out there this year.
Performance Anglers in Mammoth has a nice site that has video fishing reports of the Eastern Sierra. I’m going to keep my eyes on the site and let you guys know when a new report is up.

The Calm After the Storm

April 26th, 2008 Author: Steven

After a pretty wild Friday, the weather has settled down here in Wisconsin. Lynne and I missed most of the big storms. Yesterday morning a series storms came through Kenosha, but most of the heavier stuff went north of us. As Lynne and I were driving to Madison we got into a little rain and saw a couple cloud to ground lightning strikes and then had some rain in Madison. That was about all for us.

The most severe thunderstorms were west and north of Madison yesterday. There was one tornado north of Madison in Portage that did some damage. The biggest thing with these storms was the rain. There were areas that reported up to 8 inches of rain yesterday. Lightning also did damage throughout the state hitting a few homes and a church in Milwaukee. The church was St Stephen’s and is over 100 years old. The strike started a fire and destroyed the steeple.

Today has been clear with no storms, but the wind is blowing pretty hard. On the drive back to Kenosha the wind started out of the north, changed to the south about half way to Milwaukee and then changed to the west on the south side of Milwaukee. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the wind change directions like that before.

Now the forecast is for more rain tomorrow and possible snow tomorrow night.
