So, where do Oreo Cookies come from?

An Oreo Cow that lives about 10 miles from me.

This one is a double stuff. My favorite!!

This one’s a double stuff.

I would have taken more pictures of the Oreo Cows, but the mosquitoes were being very hungry and rude. So I grabbed a couple of quick pics and took off.

Update on Sierra Fires

June 25th, 2008 Author: Steven

Ok, I’m going to give this a try. It’s really hard to get any current info on the fires burning in the Sierra because the sites I use for sources are totally bogged down. I’m pulling this info from the National Interagency Fire Center. This site is only updated once a day in the morning, so this info may be a little out of date by now. I’m just copying and pasting this so the format may look strange.

American River Complex (Tahoe National Forest): 1,250 acres at zero percent contained. This complex of three fires is 11 miles northeast of Foresthill. Power lines and cultural resources are threatened.

Canyon Complex (Plumas National Forest): 3,971 acres at zero percent contained. This complex of 34 fires is 16 miles northeast of Paradise. Residences and archeological sites are threatened and road closures are in effect.

Clover (Sequoia National Forest): 13,250 acres at 10 percent contained. Residences are threatened.

North Mountain (Stanislaus National Forest): 645 acres at five percent contained. This fire is seven miles northeast of Groveland. Residences are threatened.

Oliver (Merced-Mariposa Unit, Cal Fire): 1,400 acres at 15 percent contained. This fire is 12 miles east of Mariposa. Structures are threatened.

Oliver Complex (Sierra National Forest): 1,668 acres at five percent contained. This complex of four fires is seven miles west of Fish Camp. Structures and cultural resources are threatened.

Yuba River Complex (Tahoe National Forest): 2,035 acres at five percent contained. This complex of 28 fires is 13 miles northeast of Nevada City. Residences, hydroelectric facilities, and power lines are threatened. Road closures are in effect

There are also 6 fires burning in the Lassen National Forest. Since these are on the far northern borders of the Sierra I left them off.

Smokey California

Here are a couple of satellite images of the smoke in California. They were taken on June 24.

The first of of Southern and Central California. The image ends just north of Yosemite. Mono Lake and Bridgeport Reservoir can be made out in the middle of the image, near the top.

The second is Northern California. The bottom lake is Lake Tahoe. The one just north-east of Tahoe is Pyramid Lake in Nevada.

Just found this third one on the NOAA site. It was taken today, June 25.
