Missing Hiker Found & Other Searches

July 31st, 2009 Author: Steven

This is interesting.
Wayne Morgan was reported missing on Tuesday after failing to return from a ten day hiking trip into the Sierra. Fresno Search and Rescue began searching for Morgan Tuesday afternoon. Morgan then showed up at the Pine Creek Pack Station unharmed. He met up with some other hikers there and decided to head back into the backcountry and continue with his original plans.

On a sadder note, Inyo County Search and Rescue has been very busy this last week. Rescues have included a broken leg, altitude sickness, a missing hiker and two deaths.  Both deaths happened in the Old Army Pass area of the Southern Sierra and resulted from falls.

New eBook: Sierra, Visions & Memories

July 30th, 2009 Author: Steven

Sierra, Visions and MemoriesI am currently putting the final touches on my new eBook Sierra, Visions & Memories.

It’s a 70 page eBook that contains 52 of my photographs along with many memories from my time living in the Eastern Sierra.

All of the images are high resolution and have a sharpness and clarity that has never been seen in my online images. The pictures almost appear to pop from the screen. Truthfully, I don’t think my pictures have ever looked this nice, including the large prints I’ve had made.

The book will sell for $20.00 and will be available for download from this site.

I don’t have a release date for the book yet. But it should be within the next week or two. There are still a few details that I’m dealing with before publishing the final copy.

So until the official release, I am offering a free sample edition of the book. It’s 10 pages long and will give you a good idea what the full edition will be like.

It can be downloaded right here: Sierra, Visions & Memories Sample Edition

Beautiful Rose

July 28th, 2009 Author: Steven

Isn’t this a gorgeous rose? The only processing I did on these two images was to add a little contrast. No saturation or color was added.  This rose was so bright that it hurt your eyes to look at it for to long.

Couple Bishop Creek Pics

July 27th, 2009 Author: Steven

Cory took a drive up Bishop Creek the other day and got a couple pictures of the damage caused by the Forks Fire. These shots were taken along Hwy 168.

Here’s Cory’s description of things up Bishop Creek:

Just as the inciweb fire perimeter map shows, the fire stayed on the north slopes from above intake two and along the slope w/ the upper edison pipeline and to the north in to the buttermilks.  Unfortunately it looks like it burned most if not all the jefferey trees in this area of the buttermilks.  One of our fav places. :(  I couldn’t get back into this area as the forest service had access blocked off and closed.  Though I was able to gain access from the dirt road just off 168, where the right hand sweeper is, going up canyon, just beyond starlight.  But I ran into a crew of forest service fire fighters and stopped and turned around.  Didn’t want  to get in the way.

So as of fri, access in to the buttermilks is closed from hwy 168 and from the starlight side at the Horton Lakes trail hd turnoff from the buttermilk rd.
Not sure when the forest service will open this area up, but as soon as they do I’ll head in to get a look see for myself.

Thanks Cory. Make sure you guys check out Cory’s web sites, Sierra Impressions Photography and BishopWeather.com
