Dave McCoy’s Photo Blog

I just happened upon an internet treasure this evening. Eastern Sierra living legend and founder of Mammoth Mtn Ski Area, Dave McCoy, has a photo blog. It’s full of great images from Dave’s travels through the Eastern Sierra and elsewhere. Dave’s photography really shows the Eastern Sierra as it is with all the raw beauty of this amazing place. Tears formed in my eyes as I wondered down many roads from my past through Dave’s pictures.

Check out Dave’s great blog here: DaveMcCoyPhotography.com

And while you’re there make sure to check out post #39 entitled “There’s Something About Rocks” it’s very cool.

I’ll never forget the day Tammy and I talked with Dave and his wife Roma up in Buttermilk. We were up there checking out the wildflowers and taking pictures when Dave and Roma came driving up in their Rihno ORV. They were out doing the same thing we were. We talked for 10-15 minutes about the wildflowers and how beautiful a day it was, then they took off in search of their own adventures. That was pretty cool.

Mammatus Clouds

I just shot these pictures of Mammatus Clouds that formed over the house about 3pm. These clouds formed on the under side of the anvil from a thunderstorm that is currently to our west. The main core of the storm is 10 miles away, but the anvil stretched all the way here. If the storm holds together we should see rain from in within a half hour or so. Storms have began to fire up all around us, so I think we should get some rain this afternoon.

Winter Storm Warning for the Sierra

May 25th, 2010 Author: Steven

Hmm…

Well…….

Let’s see……..

I honestly don’t know what to say anymore, so I’ll cut to the chase.

6-8 inches of snow above 6000 feet tonight. Over a foot is possible by Friday.

The never ending Sierra winter is continuing to never end. This is really getting a bit ridiculous don’t ya think.
