Big Waves on Lake Michigan

November 25th, 2010 Author:

Here’s some video I shot on Wednesday of good sized waves on Lake Michigan. The first part of the video is along Kennedy Park in Kenosha, the second part is near the Kenosha Harbor. The wind was blowing ESE off of the lake. I measured the wind at 15-20 mph with gust 25-30 mph while I was there. I didn’t stay out to long because I wasn’t dressed right for the conditions and with the temperature at 37 it didn’t take long for the cold wind to get to me.

Happy Thanksgiving

TWAS THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING,
BUT I JUST COULDN’T SLEEP.
I TRIED COUNTING BACKWARDS,
I TRIED COUNTING SHEEP.

THE LEFTOVERS BECKONED -
THE DARK MEAT AND WHITE,
BUT I FOUGHT THE TEMPTATION
WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT.

TOSSING AND TURNING WITH ANTICIPATION,
THE THOUGHT OF A SNACK BECAME INFATUATION.
SO, I RACED TO THE KITCHEN, FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR,
AND GAZED AT THE FRIDGE, FULL OF GOODIES GALORE.
GOBBLED UP TURKEY AND BUTTERED POTATOES,
PICKLES AND CARROTS, BEANS AND TOMATOES.

I FELT MYSELF SWELLING SO PLUMP AND SO ROUND,
‘TIL ALL OF A SUDDEN, I ROSE OFF THE GROUND.
I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING, FLOATING INTO THE SKY,
WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING AND A HANDFUL OF PIE.
BUT, I MANAGED TO YELL AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES….
HAPPY EATING TO ALL – PASS THE CRANBERRIES, PLEASE.

MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY,
MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP.
MAY YOUR POTATOES ‘N GRAVY HAVE NARY A LUMP.
MAY YOUR YAMS BE DELICIOUS.
MAY YOUR PIES TAKE THE PRIZE,
MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING DINNER STAY OFF OF YOUR THIGHS!!

Lynne and I want to wish everyone in SierraVisions Land a very happy and safe Thanksgiving!

Sierra Snow, Wisconsin Tornadoes

November 23rd, 2010 Author:

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the Sierra Nevada until 6pm tonight.

The snow keeps getting deeper and deeper in the Sierra Nevada. This morning the web cams are showing heavy snow falling all across the northern and central Sierra. Another 10-20″ are forecast to fall today. This will be on top of the 4-5 ft that has fallen since Saturday. Not a bad start to the season. Let’s hope it keeps up.

Here in Wisconsin we had a wild day yesterday. First off, many record high temperatures set, including here in Kenosha. We had an official high of 65, breaking the record of 62. Madison also set a new record high and Milwaukee came close.

If you watched my web sites yesterday then you know we also had Tornado Watches and Warnings as severe thunderstorms fired up across Illinois and SE Wisconsin. There were reports of many tornadoes across the area. As of this morning, only one has been confirmed by the NWS, but that will change as the survey teams go out to assess damage today.

The one confirmed tornado was in the Village of Walworth in Walworth County WI. This was an EF1 tornado that was on the ground for 4 miles and had a width of 100 yards. 2 homes received significant roof damage and one of those was shifted off of it’s foundation. 2 other homes received minor damage while 4 barns were damaged and many power poles knocked down.

I’ll have more info on the tornadoes as it comes in today.

Today is the complete opposite of yesterday. Our high today is forecast to be 33. Right now it’s 27 here at the house with north-west winds blowing 15-25 mph. That’s putting the wind chill in the low teens. This morning is the first morning I had to put on the winter coat to take Scout out. I’m thinking it’s going to be tough for the temps to get above freezing today.

Whew…. Tornado Kind of Day

It’s been an exciting afternoon. We were under a Tornado Warning at one point. The storm that was warned produced a tornado in Walworth County to our west and then produced another tornado in Union Grove to our north-west. The storm missed us to the north-west. I-94 in Racine is currently closed do to big trucks getting flipped either from the tornado or high winds.

Here at the house we’ve had some rain but that’s about it.
