Looking to catch a Lunar Rainbow?

May 22nd, 2007 Author: Steven

If you’ve ever wanted to catch a lunar rainbow but didn’t know where one would appear, then your worries are over. Astronomers from Texas State University in San Marcos have came up with a computer model that predicts when “moonbows” will appear at Yosemite Falls. They have published the dates on their web site. You can see the dates here Moonbow dates for Yosemite Falls

There is also an article at the Ansel Adams Gallery site. Here is the link Lunar Rainbows - When to View and How to Photograph a “Moonbow “

The Pastor’s Ass

May 21st, 2007 Author: Steven

This was sent to me in honor of Mule Days and I just had to share it with you guys.

“The Pastors Ass”

The pastor entered his donkey in a race and it won. The pastor was so
pleased with the donkey that he entered it in the race again……and it
won again.

The local paper read: PASTOR’S ASS OUT FRONT
The Bishop was so upset with this kind of publicity that he ordered the
pastor not to enter the donkey in another race.

The next day, the local paper headline read: BISHOP SCRATCHES PASTOR’S
ASS.

This was too much for the bishop, so he ordered the pastor to get rid of
the donkey. The pastor decided to give it to a nun in a nearby convent.

The local paper, hearing of the news, posted the following headline the
next day: NUN HAS BEST ASS IN TOWN.

The bishop fainted. He informed the nun that she would have to get rid
of the donkey, so she sold it to a farmer for $10.

The next day the paper read: NUN SELLS ASS FOR $10

This was too much for the bishop, so he ordered the nun to buy back the
donkey and lead it to the plains where it could run wild.

The next day the headlines read: NUN ANNOUNCES HER ASS IS WILD AND FREE

The bishop was buried the next day.

The moral of the story is……..Being concerned about public opinion
can bring you much grief and misery…and even shorten your life. So be
yourself and enjoy life… Stop worrying about everyone else’s ass and
you’ll be a lot happier and live longer!

CalNaturePhoto

May 21st, 2007 Author: Steven

This site has been on line for a month and a half now. In that time it has grown quite a bit. I have a steady following of visitors and I have put a lot of hard work into the articles that I’ve written. But it has also put a lot of pressure on me. And pressure and stress don’t help creativity. I know that many of the newer visitors to CalNatuePhoto may never have heard of me before they came here, but I have had a presence on the web since 1999 when my site SierraVisions.com went online. Over the last month and a half I have been trying to keep both sites updated with fresh content on a consistent basis and it’s become way to much work. I also have a photography and graphic arts business that I run and the creativity that goes into them has began to suffer. So something has to give. And that something is CalNaturePhoto.

This will be the last post on CalNautrePhoto. I’m going to let this site go. SierraVisions.com will become my main focus again. Now if you have enjoyed what you’ve read here, then come on over to SierraVisions, I will be continuing everything I’ve done here over there. I will continue to do photoshop tutorials, photo tours, and updates on the hotspots in California photography. I will also be writing more e-books about where to shoot in California.

At the moment SierraVisions is a little out of date. In fact, it’s an antique. I don’t have RSS feeds on there or all of the other toys of the modern web, but I’m working on that. SierraVisions in the process of a major overhaul and will be totally Web 2.0 compatible in the very near future.

So I’m hoping that all of you who have enjoyed CalNaturePhoto will come join us over at SierraVisions. I wish this site could have made it, but the work of keeping two major sites updated has created a situation that I didn’t foresee when I started it.

Take care and thanks for the support you’ve shown to a California Nature Photographers Journal. I hope to see you over at SierraVisions.com

CalNaturePhoto and SierraVisions

May 21st, 2007 Author: Steven

CalNaturePhoto has been online for a month and half now. In that time it has done pretty well. The number of visitors has grown and I feel I’ve written some good articles for the site. But the site has also put a lot of pressure on me. It’s pretty hard work keeping two major sites up to date with fresh content. I really want to keep both sites updated at least every other day and preferably every day, but I can’t seem to do it. The harder I try to be creative, the harder it is to be creative. Also, with so much creative energy going into writing, I feel that my photography and graphic arts have suffered. And since my graphic arts are my main source of income, when they suffer so do I.

So something has to give. And since I’m not about to do anything to my baby, SierraVisions, then I’m going to have to do something with CalNaturePhoto. So as of right now, I will not be updating CalNaturePhoto anymore. I’m going to let it go. I will leave the site online for now, but I am going to direct all of the visitors to SierraVisions. SierraVisions will once again become my number one priority.

CalNaturePhoto was a good idea, but it just isn’t working for me. It’s causing more problems than it’s worth and it’s just not much fun anymore. After all the whole reason for having a web site is to have fun with it. I have enjoyed writing the articles and tutorials and photo tours for CalNaturePhoto. So I will be continuing them on SierraVisions. I will also be writing more E-book photo guides. It’s just now it will all be for SierraVisions. By only having one site to keep up to date I should be able to get more done and be more creative.

As for the major update I promised for SierraVisions, I’m still working on it. Maybe now I’ll have more time to really work on it. I’m having problems getting the look and feel I want. In fact, I may be changing the look of SierraVisions. It will still have a natural, mountain, forest theme to it, but it may different. I’m thinking of going for a granite, rocky look now. But we’ll see.

So there you have it. Changes are in the wind. Hopefully they will all be positive.

Cute Sells

May 19th, 2007 Author: Steven

Ever wonder why we think of something as cute? Well so do many researchers. Here’s an interestng article over on The Thinking Blog called The Cute Factor. It’s about why we see things like babies and animals as cute. It also goes into how cuteness has been used as a marketing tool for many years.

It makes me think about all of the greeting cards you see that feature photography of cute babies, puppies, kittens, ducklings and any other things that’s cute. Gives me many ideas for future pictures too.
