A Couple Things

March 8th, 2010 Author: Steven

First off, sorry for not posting as much the last few days. We’re having some work done in the house this week and we’ve been moving and rearranging things to get ready for that. Because of the work being done, I’m not sure how much I’ll post this week either.

Secondly, our good friend Kahlee has put up a new post on her blog, Spirits Dancing in the Heart of the Wind. The post is entitled Spring Wildflowers are Here… So What’s Blooming Where? and it contains many great links to Kahlee’s favorite online wildflower resources. If  you want to know where the flowers are blooming in California, check out this list.

Finally, our March meltdown has begun here in Wisconsin. Temps have been in the low 40’s for the last few days and Spring is in the air. The forecast is calling for temps to remain in the 40’s with a chance of rain the rest of the week. Today it’s beautiful out.

R.I.P Captain Phil

February 10th, 2010 Author: Steven

Just heard some very sad news. Phil Harris, captain of the Cornelia Marie crab-fishing boat on Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch, has died at the age of 53.

On January 29, while the Cornelia Marie was off loading crab at St. Paul Island Alaska,  Captain Phil had a massive stroke and was flow to Anchorage where he underwent a lengthy surgery. While he showed signs of improvement last week, it was announced today that he had passed away yesterday.

I’ve been watching Deadliest Catch since the first season, 5 years ago, and Captain Phil was one of my favorite people on the show. I loved it when he tried to convince all of us that he found crab by watching for their fart bubbles on the surface of the ocean :-)

The Discovery Channel website has put up video for some of their favorite Captain Phil Moments. Here’s the link to that: Favorite Captain Phil Moments

My thoughts and prayers go out to Phil’s family, friends and crew. Rest in peace Captain Phil. I’m going to miss ya buddy.

Wisconsin Cams Update and Weather

February 9th, 2010 Author: Steven

The Wisconsin WebCams Page has just been updated. I updated all of the links, replaced cams that didn’t work with ones that do and also added a few new cams that I just found.

It’s dumping big time now. The main lake effect snow is here and is supposed to be here until midnight. I just took Scout out and did some measuring. I got measurements from 5 inches to 6 and a quarter inches. There are a couple drifts well over a foot. If it keeps snowing this hard for the rest of the evening we’ll easily be close to a foot.
