I shot this last evening while on my way to a pet sit. It’s a two image pano of a storm over Lake Michigan at sunset. The image was shot and processed on my iPhone. If it wasn’t for my iPhone I would have missed a beautiful photo because I didn’t have another camera with me. Just goes to show, the best camera is the one you have with you!

The Day After

Severe weather didn’t quite materialize for us along Lake Michigan’s shore yesterday. The strongest storms, on the leading edge of the cold front, fell apart as they hit the cooler air along the lake. At the time the storms came in there was an 18 degree difference in temperature from the lake shore to 10 miles inland. That was enough to weaken the storms considerably.

We did get to see a nice shelf cloud as the leading edge of storms came in though. Here is a two image pano I shot from our balcony. Click the image to enlarge.

These storms were moving at 60-70 mph as they came through Kenosha County. I was expecting all hell to break loose after the shelf cloud passed, but it didn’t happen this time. I just missed an awesome lightning photo while shooting this pano. A large tangle of lightning appeared just above the trees and stayed there for about 5-10 seconds. More than enough time to take a picture, but I was moving to a new position and wasn’t ready for it.

We did end up with .55″ of rain last night and another .04″ this morning. Next system moves in on Tuesday night and Wednesday. It’s currently forecast to bring close to an inch of rain.

Everyday Beauty

Those of you who are friends of mine on Facebook already know of this, but I wanted to share it with all of my SierraVisions friends too. I have recently started a new photo blog called Everyday Beauty. It contains photos from my everyday life that I shoot and process with my iPhone. I originally started posting these photos on Facebook a month or so ago, but as the gallery began to grow, I decided it was time for the images to have their own site where they could be displayed in a nice fashion. Plus, I just don’t quite trust having my photos on Facebook.

I’ve found that having a decent camera with me all of the time, my iPhone camera, has really opened my eyes to a whole new world of photo opportunities. I’m now shooting images of things that I never dreamed of shooting before. Plus, with all of the great photo apps available on the iPhone, my creativity has really blossomed and many of my images have taken on a whole new artistic feel.

Daffodils at Petrifying Springs

Every year at the end of April through the beginning of May, Daffodils bloom at Petrifying Springs Park in Kenosha. As many of you know, Pets (As the locals call it) is just a few miles from my home and is one of our favorite places to photograph year around. Unfortunately the Daffodil bloom has been pretty weak the last couple of years, but this year we have a decent bloom going on right now.

I went out to Pets the other day to shoot. It was somewhat windy that day, making flower photography a challenge, but I was able to get a few decent images. Here are a few of my better Daffodil shots from the shoot.

As a side note, these photos were taken while laying on my belly in damp grass and dirt. I was a mess from head to toe after shooting these :-) Nothing like rolling around in the mud for a great photo opp!

Happy Easter

Happy Easter everyone. Hope your Easter Sunday is going well. I spent this morning out at Wind Point shooting some pictures, now I’m watching the Brewers game and waiting for Lynne to get back from her trip to Missouri. She should be home around 5, then I’m going to throw some steaks on the grill and have nice Easter evening with my wife.

Here are two of the most awesome time lapse videos I’ve seen. They were shot by photographer Terje Sorgjerd and are truly spectacular! I highly recommend watching these full screen.

The first is titled “The Aurora”. It was shot in Kirkenes and Pas National Park bordering Russia.
