Desert Wildflower Bloom

March 13th, 2008 Author: Steven

If you’re looking for something to do this weekend and feel like taking a drive, the deserts of Southern California may be the place to head to. The wildflowers are in full bloom right now with spectacular color displays.

Michael Gordon has posted a 60 mile desert driving tour on his web site. Here’s the intro to the post.

If you’ve never seen California’s vast and ephemeral displays of spring wildflowers, you’ve been missing out! Now is the time, and I mean NOW! As of Monday, March 10, many areas of the California desert are at peak color and form, and in some places, the flowers are already dwindling due to lack of recent precipitation and climbing temperatures.

Gorman and Yosemite Dogwoods

April 22nd, 2007 Author: Steven

Got a couple of updates for you. The Dogwoods in Yosemite Valley are blooming nicely. Dan from the CalPhoto group just spent Friday and Saturday there and he reports that there are nice blooms around the Bridalveil Falls area and along the south side of the valley. He also said that the nicest blooms were in the Curry Village area and in some of the campgrounds. He thinks that the best is yet to come and that next weekend will be the peak time for Dogwood blooms in Yosemite Valley.

I also got a report from Marina that the Gorman area is pretty nice right now. Not as nice as in the past, but for this year, pretty good. She said there are Poppies and Lupines blooming up in the hills in the area where the fire was last August.

No news isn’t good news

April 19th, 2007 Author: Steven

I haven’t been posting about where to shoot because I don’t know what’s going on out there. I haven’t received any news from anyone and even my normal internet sources have nothing new to report. I’m beginning to think that the whole state is dried up.

I have heard that there are some nice wildflowers along Hwy 49 in the Placerville and Coloma areas of the Sierra foothills. I use to live in that area and know it real well. Even if the flowers aren’t the greatest, I know it’s beautiful there this time of year. The north fork of the American River is pretty awesome.

Have also read of flowers along the Pacific Coast Hwy in the Ventura area.

That’s all I got right now. I’m searching though. I have a post up on the CalPhoto Group to see if I can find out anything about the dogwoods in Yosemite and along Hwy 50.
