Couple Quick Updates

January 15th, 2009 Author:

First off, the weather. Low last night, -12. High today, -3. Currently at 9:38 Central Time, -9. That makes today the coldest day of the winter so far. The wind never blew like they forecast for today and the sun was out all day long, so being outside wasn’t unbearable if you were only out for short periods. We are forecast to get above zero for tomorrow and then into the mid 20′s over the weekend. There is more snow on tap for Saturday but I’ll take it, temps in the 20′s will feel down right balmy after today.

To update my brother’s condition, I got an email from my sister and she talked to Brian today. I guess he’s pretty sore but she said he was his old self. They were going to feed him lunch when she talked to him and then get him up for a walk.  I’m going to give him a call either tomorrow or on Saturday. He will be in the hospital at least till Monday.

That’s about all the news I got at the moment.

Still sending all kinds of healing thoughts to your brother. Hope he’s basking in the So Cal sun again soon.

As for freezing temps, consider the plight of one of my Flickr pals, Kate. She reported that today it was -52, that’s MINUS 52 degrees. She’s freezing her you know-what-off in Canada somewhere. To me, any time you’re in the minuses for more than a day or two, that would be an unmistakable sign from the universe that one should head for Arizona, Southern California or Florida immediately. ;-)

I know that Canada got hit much harder with the cold. Guess we should feel lucky. In fact other areas in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota got hit harder than us. Couple places in Iowa set record lows. But it’s still COLD out there. Last night’s low here at the house was -17. It’s currently -15 at 8:42AM. Being along Lake Michigan helps us a little. The Kenosha airport is inland about 8 miles and they are reporting -21 right now.

Great news about your brother. Not such great news about “lunch”. Because of the religious affiliation, the food all tastes the same…….like cardboard. Thank God they are the best at what they do, it makes up for the food!!

I had warned him about the no meat and no caffeine rules before he went in.
Personally I thought the cafeteria food at Loma Linda was pretty tasty even though it was vegetarian. But I still remember the shock of finding out that I couldn’t get a “real” Pepsi or Coke from the cafeteria. I need my caffeine :-)
The nurses sure had theirs. They even had a coffee maker and a refrigerator with cokes in the ward Tammy was in.

Sounds like your brother Brian is coming along just fine, glad to hear this. I guess the weather is strange all over the place, we are still having heavy winds and high temp’s here in Camarillo, CA. But, now they are saying this morning that by next week, we may get some rain….that would be great news for us. Thanks for the update Steve……
