Disappointing Fall So Far

October 19th, 2009 Author:

So far this fall has been a little disappointing here in Wisconsin. Many of the trees have no color at all. The leaves turned brown and fell off. Yesterday we took a drive north of Milwaukee to an area who’s color is supposed to be at it’s peak, we hardly found any color at all. Out at Petrifying Springs many of the trees are now bare. We had a pretty hard wind the other day and it striped a lot of trees.

Speaking of the wind, it has been a major issue this year.  Seems like I’m fighting it every time I go out. The other day at Pets I put the camera away and shot video instead. I had no choice, the trees along the river were awesome, but there was just enough wind to make it impossible to shoot photos. Maybe this fall is going to be about shooting video instead of pictures.

I’m hoping things will change over the next week or two. Last year, the end of October was the best time in the Kenosha area and south into Illinois. Maybe this year will be the same. There are still a lot of green trees that have yet to change, I’m hoping they are colorful when they do.

That stinks, hope it gets better for you.

Not sure if anyone cares, but the trees up here in Big Bear have peaked. The aspens and cottonwoods are yellow and orange. Oaks are orange with some brown. Most of the aspens/cottonwoods are in town and around the housing areas. The National Forest is full of oaks. You can see spots of orange mixed througout the green on the mountainsides.

As an update to what I wrote yesterday morning, the colors are starting to look real nice all of a sudden. Guess I just needed to complain loud enough for them to listen. Now I have to find the time to go shoot.

    Hi Steven,
Posted about an article in the LA Times about what is going on in Colorado. I guess we can’t complain too much. We’ve had a weird year here, a split season.

    Best Regards,
    Greg….
