Eastern Sierra Fall Color Report
We have an on the spot person giving us some reports now. Long time SierraVisions friend Inge Fernau has given me permission to post the reports that she’s putting on the CalPhoto group. Inge will be in Bishop until the 5th, so we should get some good reports from her.
Here’s her report from yesterday:
Below please find my report from 9/27 to 9/30.
-9/27 – Lee Vining Canyon mostly green, Dunderberg Meadow Road had the
full color spectrum. Conway Summit had a lot of green, some yellow and
some bare trees. Could not take any images at Conway Summit,
because the right lane of 395 was closed due to road work and all the
pull outs were not accessible.
June Lake Loop mostly green. Lake Sabrina and the
Sabrina Basin are at peak.
NOTE : There was road work going on and going south on 395 the left
lane was closed. We could not pull over to take any shuts.
9/29 – Rock Creek Lake and above are at peak, with some bare trees and
black leaves. It was raining in the Eastern Sierra with some wind
blowing. Cardinal Pond had the full color spectrum. – Lime green,
yellow and a little orange.
NOTE it is unseasonably warm up here and that may help keeping the
leaves on the trees a little longer. I should have brought more summer
close.
9/30 – South Lake Road around Bishop Creek Resort is mostly green with
some yellow. Above Table Mountain Campground most of the trees are
close to peak, with some bare ones already. Above Parchers Resort and
South Lake the Aspens are at peak. A few strugglers are green…
The huge Aspen Grove behind Cardinal Village is at peak with a few bare
trees, this one will go fast. Sabrina Basin is at peak with some of
the trees loosing their leaves.
The big Aspen Grove behind North Lake is red, yellow and some green.
Some trees on the side are bare. Aspen along
the road are green,
yellow, orange and red. Even so there are some green trees left, I
believe North Lake is close to peak.Inge Fernau
And here is her report from this morning:
Took a drive to Convict Lake today 9/30, it was too early. The grove in
the back is just starting to change. The trees along the road are
mostly green.McGee Creek Canyon - the upper canyon (viewed from afar) has yellow
carpets it is worth a hike up. The trees along the trail head parking
lot are mostly green. The trees around the campground are mostly green.Hilton Creek is also mostly green.
