Eastern Sierra Fall Color Report
Just got back from a drive up to Mono Village outside of Bridgeport and I’ll tell you what, the Eastern Sierra is alive with fall color right now. Everything from the highest areas up Bishop Creek and Rock Creek to the lower areas around June Lake Loop and the Parker bench are turning right now. I can’t remember a time when everything at all elevations has changed at the same time. Hwy 395 is a beautiful drive at this time.
And yet there are still areas that are green too. Lee Vining Canyon is still mostly green. Conway Summit is a mixture of bright gold and deep green. The Twin Lakes area near Bridgeport is awesome right now. Bright yellows and many oranges.
Drove up Bishop Creek yesterday and the middle fork from Aspendell to Lake Sabrina is beautiful. If it’s not peaking right now, it will be soon. South fork is coming along nicely, but it’s not nearly as pretty as the middle fork. I don’t know about the north fork because I didn’t drive up there. It was pretty windy up Bishop Creek yesterday and extremely windy in Bishop Last night. Hopefully the wind didn’t hurt things to much.
If you can get into the Eastern Sierra in the next week or two you will be treated to quite a show. If you can’t make it until the middle of Oct you might be to late.
This will be my last post before leaving on my trip. I won’t be back until Sat. the 13th. If I get a chance I’ll try to post from the road, but no promises.
For those of you who have news about the fall colors over the next two weeks, please feel free to comment on this post to let everyone know what’s happening.

Steven: You have a safe and wonderful trip.
The Sierra’s are beautiful right now. Not only with leaf color but a dusting of snow on Friday night. Spent the weekend in Smith…..what a great fall weekend. Even had a dusting on the mountains surrounding our valley.
Was at Sabrina, South Lake and Rock Creek Canyon this past weekend. Above 8500 ft elevation, leaves have already fallen. Peak colors (lots of tangerine color) are found between 7000-8500 ft, with lots of yellow aspens below that. Rabbit bush is beautiful yellow up to about 7000 ft too. Hurry if you want to catch the fall season in Bishop area this year.
We were at Convict Lake on 10-9-07 for a spectacular Fall color show. There was still a little snow on the ground from the day before and golden yellow aspen leaves surrounding the picturesque lake. Rock Creek & Bishop Creek on the way to South Lake were still mostly nice with the higher elevations fried by the recent storm. The mountain entry from Big Pine was lovely also.
