Eastern Sierra Fall Color Reports

September 24th, 2010 Author:

Since I no longer live in California, it’s kind of hard for me to give fall color reports for the Eastern Sierra. The last couple of years I’ve tried to keep up with it, but it’s kind of hard posting info from other sources, especially when I’m focusing on fall colors here in Wisconsin.

Thankfully, many folks have picked up where I left off and there are now many great resources for fall color reports from the Sierra Nevada.

Here’s a listing of some of the better sources:

I hope this list is useful to everyone. The Eastern Sierra is one of the best places for fall color in California. If you know of other sites the give up to date reports on fall colors in the Sierra Nevada, please leave a link in the comment. Happy autumn everyone!

Robin’s pictures on her ‘life on the eastern slope” are starting to show some color now.

  2. Hi Steven — Thanks for mentioning the Eastern Sierra FaceBook and Flickr groups. Parchers now has a page on FB with reports. I believe it’s John Poimiroo who runs the California Fall Color website. Perhaps the best resource for Fall color reports is Carol Leigh’s Fall Color Hotsheet: http://calphoto.com/fall.htm. Also, Mono County is now posting comprehensive reports (with percentages of color change) for that area: http://www.monocounty.org/fall-colors/

    Hope this is helpful.

  3. Steven,

I run CaliforniaFallColor.com. It’s a general service reporting on fall color across all areas of California, though some areas subscribe to assure their reports are blogged. The reports come from a network of color spotters across California who feed reports to me. Thanks for the mention on your blog. I’ll reciprocate. John Poimiroo.

You might also check out Dave Henry with the Sacramento Bee at http://www.sacbee.com/leaves/. He provides weekly photos at 21 different spots from Bishop to Christmas Valley and rates where they are in the color change.
