Guess what I just saw?
It’s 9:40 Thursday night, June 25. I just got back from taking Scout out and guess what I saw? Two fireflies!!
I guess I’m the winner :-)
I walked out to the yard and looked in the area they normally are, and didn’t see any. Then as we were walking back to the front door I thought I saw a flash up in the tree across the street, but wasn’t sure. Then there was another flash right in from of me. It continued to flash into the front yard and then another one went off over my truck.
I’ve been watching from the window and I see flashes every now and then. They aren’t out in a lot of numbers yet, but they’re out. I knew it had to be soon with all the warm temps we’ve had.
Speaking of the temps. The last two nights have been miserable. I don’t think we’ve dropped below 70, the humidity has been so bad and there hasn’t been a breath of air stirring outside. Not good sleeping weather that’s for sure. In fact, Milwaukee had a record high low temp last night. They’re low was 77. That’s higher than the average high temp for this time of year. Now I know for places like Phoenix, that’s nothing. But for back here it’s down right yucky. Doesn’t look like tonight will be much better.
There is a break in the heat coming, but not till Monday. I guess we may see a little break on Sunday along the lake. The wind is forecast to shift and come off of the lake. That will be nice.
You know, for me the heat hasn’t been that bad the last couple days. After Living in Bishop and dealing with 90′s and 100′s for so long mid 80′s isn’t that bad. It’s been the humidity that’s got to me. It’s just so stuffy outside. And at least in Bishop it cools down at night. Not here at the moment. I don’t like warm, muggy nights. I don’t know how the folks in the south deal with the humidity all the time.

Hey didn’t I guess the 25th too? That’s really neat – I wish we had fireflies out here. Good luck with that humidity. We’re forecast for 104 here Sunday but the humidity will probably only be in the teens. Hey, do you go swimming in the lake? What’s to prevent someone from trying to swim across the lake – like crossing the English Channel?
Well Karl, the 25th was one of your three guesses :-)
I don’t swim in the lake myself, but many people do. I’m not much of a water person. Love being near water, but not in it. Could have something to do with the fact that I can’t swim.
There have been a few people who’ve swam across Lake Michigan. Here’s what I found: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Has_anyone_ever_successfully_swam_across_Lake_Michigan
Steven you grew up in CA and can’t swim, amazing. Learn something new every day!!
Yeah. I had lessons when I was kid. Made it through two days and refused to go back.
I don’t like having my face under water. Even as an adult, I hate sticking my face under the shower to rinse the soap off.
