Impressionistic Images Update

September 1st, 2009 Author:

First off, thanks for all the comments guys. Your opinions mean a lot to me.

Just so everyone knows, my photography isn’t changing. This was just something I wanted to try and see what would happened. The four images posted are the only four that I liked out of 63 that I shot! And I really only care for two of the four.

I’m not diving into impressionistic photography head first, that’s for sure. I was just curious. Then I was curious to get your reactions to it. I prefer natural impressions much more, especially reflections in water.

But I must admit, it was fun to throw a new twist at myself and try to see things different for a day. Even though I’ve been a photographer for a long time, I’m still trying to grow artistically and sometimes forcing myself to try something new is the best way for me to grow.

For all you photographers out there I say give it a try. Go out and make a bunch of blurry pictures. Who knows, you may learn something about your photography that will help you make better images in the future. Yesterday I forced myself to see the world differently and I think it will help my photography in the future.

Actually I like photos taken at night where lights are blurred or even streak across the image. Gives kind of an “urban vibe” feel to the photo (whatever “urban vibe” means). I guess that’s about as far from nature photography as one can get though. Perhaps there’s a way to combine the two. I’ll leave it up to you to figure that one out :)

Actually were you able to photo any fireflies this year? I’m guessing firefly season is over now?

Yeah, no more fireflies this year and no pictures of them from earlier. They never showed up in big numbers this summer. I think the cool, dry temps had something to do with it. One night during our hot and humid spell in Aug I saw a bunch, but that was the only night. So no photos this year :-(
