Is November Finally Here?
After a very dreary month of October that saw us receive over 5 inches of rain here in Kenosha, November has been very pleasant so far. Temps have ranged from the mid 50′s to low 60′s and we even ventured close to the 70 mark one day. We’ve also had mostly sunny days and not a drop of rain. You couldn’t ask for a more perfect first half of November.
Yesterday things began to change though. It was pretty much cloudy all day and I’m not sure if the temp even reached 50. By last night there was a steady north wind blowing and quite a chill in the air. This morning the wind is blowing 15-20 mph out of the north-east with temps in the low 40′s. Now it feels like November in Wisconsin :-)
The 5 day forecast is calling for the wind to continue to blow with temps in the mid 40′s. We get a chance of rain again on Wednesday and Thursday. It looks as though our spring like November is over and the real November is beginning to show up. Last year the first measurable snow fall was on the 24th. We’ll see how close we come to that this year.

It’s those darned gales of November. Oops – that’s the next lake over. Or is it “up”?…
I believe the November gales you’re referring to are on the lake north of us. That would be the one the Chippewa call Gitche Gumee. I know this because we just heard the song two nights ago on the radio ;-)
Those same November gales also blow hard on the lake the Indians called “Michi gami”, (Michi gami is where Michigan comes from). Most of the ship wrecks that have happened on the Great Lakes happened in November due to those gales and the surprise storms they bring.
