Lone Pine Peak at Sunrise
Here’s the first image from my new toy.

What is my new toy? It’s a new scanner. To be precise it’s an Epson Perfection V500 Photo scanner that not only scans prints, but also negatives and slides. I’ve been playing with it all morning and it’s awesome. As you can see from the image above, a slide from Feb. of 2000, the scanner does an amazing job with slides.
That’s one of the main reasons I got this scanner. I want to get my best slides onto the computer and backed up for safety. It also let’s me share many of my earliest images with you guys. Some of these you’ve seen, but most you haven’t.
I’m looking forward to sharing these images with everyone. Some of my best stuff is on slides and has never been shown to the world. Keep your eyes out for them.

Fabulous, Steven! Congrats on the new toy. I can’t wait to see more of your beautiful work. :-)
Funny you should have this photo today Steve……Cecil & I have been talking about a scanner for all of our 35 mm slides that we have 1000′s! Just this weekend we were looking as Costco had one on sale but no to many good reviews. It is so hard to figure out what’s the best to buy. Maybe we should look into the Epson one like you have. I’d love to get all those old 35 mm slides done and put on a CD to look at, talk about going down memory lane with them…….. thanks Steve….
Karen,
I purchased this scanner because of it’s ability to scan slides. The customer reviews at Amazon and at Dell were all terrific. At Dell it got 5 of 5 stars with 25 reviews, at Amazon it gets 4 of 5 stars with 260 reviews. I would give it 4-5 stars. It’s pretty affordable to. Amazon sells it for $154.
It’s very easy to hook up, just load the software, plug in the scanner and away you go. Another cool thing is that it has dust removal built in. It does a pretty good job with it too.
Look into it. After one day of scanning, I’m pretty happy with it.
Steven – i look forward to seeing some of this “hidden” work too. a friend and i were playing with his scanner recently and i was impressed with the results. most of my dad’s work was slides and although i started with prints, i did slides for years before returning to prints (and finally digital). i need to find a way to preserve these. i’ll have to put a scanner on my “need to get” list.
Nice shot, enjoy your new toy.
Personally I’ve given up on my film, when I look back at the stuff I shot on film vs the stuff I shoot today. The film stuff wasn’t all that good. It is fun to see how I’ve gotten better as a photography though.
Thanks Steve, I appreciate your input on this. It’s nice to really talk to someone that has one of these to see what they think. Cecil & I will look into it and decide on something. Cecil loved shooting the 35 mm for so long….I finally bought him a Pentex Digital Camera for Christmas. He wanted one that the len’s would be interchangeable……so he now has one, it works great. Thanks again…….
