New Camera

July 31st, 2007 Author: Steven

I got a new toy that I haven’t told you guys about yet. Tammy’s mom and dad bought me a new Cannon DSLR camera. It’s nice!! They gave it to me while they were here a couple of weeks ago. It was a total surprise to me. I thought the camera was Sam’s and then she told me it was mine. I think I almost fell off of the couch.

I didn’t say anything about it before ’cause I wanted to wait till I turned it into my dream camera by buying the lenses I wanted for it. Well I got them now. And here are the first shots with it. These were shot up Lee Vining Creek. In all of these shots I was standing in the same position so you can get an idea of how much wide angle and zoom I have now. With my telephoto I can zoom in even more than what these pics show. So i should be able to shoot birds and wildlife now.

As always, click on the thumbnail for the larger image.

Congrats on your new camera. I’m a Canon DSLR user myself. Which wide angle lense are you using?

Nice shots too. Looks like the creek is flowing good, despite our dry year. Would you be willing to post directions to that area…I’m always looking for waterfalls to photograph.

Hey Mike,
I bought the Canon EFs 10-22mm. It’s 35mm equivalent is 16-35mm. It’s pretty awesome. I love seeing the world through a wide angle lens.

To get to that waterfall head up Lee Vining Canyon and turn left just before you begin to climb up Tioga. You want to head into the canyon where the campgrounds are. Follow the road up the canyon to where it turns to dirt. The falls are a mile to from there. It’s pretty easy to find.

Nice lense. I have the 17-40 but it’s 27-64 equivilant. Miss having that 17mm equivilant FOV from film days.

Thanks for the directions…now if I could just get some time off work. =D
