May Photo of the Month: Burro at Custer State Park, Black Hills of South Dakota
I thought that since I’m two weeks late on posting the Photo of the Month for May that I’d have some fun with this months photo. This months photo wasn’t shot by me, it was shot by Lynne, and it features one of the very friendly burros that guard the entrances to Custer State Park in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
As I rolled down the window to get a picture of the burro it decided to stick it’s head in and say hey. That’s my hand to the left. My picture is pretty good, but this one that Lynne shot is much better. This shot just makes me laugh all over again as I remember the craziness with the burros and how hard we were laughing at the time.

I love this picture!! I hope you and Lynne dont mind it is my wallpaper. How cute this guy is. Some how I think Lynne just might like assfess….
Steven and Lynne were all abuzz about producing Ass-Fest t-shirts, etc. I believe the “Tri-County Fair” is weekend after next, but I’ll pass on that one. The one time I drove through Bishop on my way to Mammoth during “Mule Daze” it was crazy. Not sure I’d want to be in town then, unless of course, I wanted to race mules or hang out with them. They’re pretty savvy, those sure-footed beasties.
Mule Days is Memorial Day weekend, Tri-County fair is Labor Day weekend.
And I still say that “Ass-Fest” t-shirts would sell like crazy!!
yep, I would buy one!!
Me too!
Awwwwwww……..
PS. Steve, you really should try some moisturizing lotion on your hands. Oh wait, that’s the burro’s snout.
I love this shot…hopefully Cecil & I can take some shots like this. We are heading up to Mt. Rushmore in July and will do Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, etc. I didn’t make any comments during your trip….but sure enjoyed each step of the way with you, Lynn, Mom, Scout and whoever else was riding along with all of you. It makes you feel like you are on vacation right along with you……thanks for doing the Tweetes.
Keep the pic’s and remarks coming…….love all of it.
Have you guys been there before?
Awwww Burro Smoochies !
I have never been to that part of the USA but Cecil has, he was pretty young though. Wall Drugs is also on our list of to do places. We are really excited about seeing all kinds of things. Then heading back through Montana & Idaho, we hope to stop at Four Winds Trading Post in Montana which is suppose to be a really interesting place. One of the oldest Trading Posts in the USA….so should be fun.
We did Wall Drug too. I wasn’t to impressed by it. Kind of a tourist trap. But now I can say I’ve been there
I did get a cool Black Hills hat from there.
We didn’t get to see Crazy Horse ’cause we spent to much time at Custer State Park.
talk about getting in your face! lol
I was there and did not see any of these burros… Wow! I missed out! Glad you got to enjoy South Dakota. Did you see the Corncob Palace? I cannot recall quite where it is, but just off the interstate. I do not think it is up year round though, but it is fun actually.. changes from year to year. Anyway… your sharing is appreciated!
We saw the sign to go to the corncob palace, but didn’t have time to go. We did talk about seeing it on a future trip though.
[...] The memories that this friendly burro left us with will never vanish. Lynne, Mom and I were laughing so hard at this guy that it’s amazing we even got a picture. Looking at this photo brings it all back and I have a huge smile on my face right now. We still joke about the burro rangers checking to make sure you paid your entrance fee To see another view of this guy, here’s Lynne’s picture taken from the passenger seat at the same time I took this one: Lynne’s Photo [...]
