Pleasant Valley Fire

March 17th, 2008 Author:

Hi guys,
I’m back from my weekend at Lynne’s. I had this in my email this morning from Cory in Bishop. I had heard yesterday that there was a fire in the Bishop area, but didn’t have any info on it until now.

Subject: Pleasant Valley Fire

Message: Hey Steven.  Any hint of spring back there yet?  It’s been
really nice the last couple weeks here.

Say, just wanted to give you and your readers a heads-up re: the
smoke on my web cam.  We had a fire break out yesterday in the
Pleasant Valley Dam area.  High winds didn’t help much.

I don’t know the status of it as of yet, but will pass along any info
I hear today.  I was sent an email by a Calfire employee asking me to
pan my webcam towards the fire though!  Apparently they were using it
as a resource.  At the thime he indicated it was about 700 acres;
which was around 3pm yesterday.

They did evac the campground and climbers cg as the fire was
aparently burning on both sides of the river.

I’ll update later today.

Thanks for the email Cory.

On another note, I see that the web site is still crawling on it’s hands and knees. Guess I have to give my host a call. I’m not in the mood to sit on hold for 40 minutes today, so I’ll call them tomorrow.

I’ll write more later.

Don’t feel like the lone stranger on the site crawling thing…every site I go on for the past few days is having the same problem…I think something strange is going on with the web actually. I know we were supposed to have solar flares last week, but who knows if that has anything to do with it!

Hope they’ve got that fire under control!

It does seem to be better…it’s not listed on the NIFC page, nor does the CHP have any roads blocked anymore…those can only be good things!

We were driving home from Mammoth yesterday and the smoke was SO thick and dark & it seemed to cover a huge area. Do you know what caused it??? When we saw police blocking the road with rifles, we were rather curious!!!

I know how you feel about the site. I spent over an hour on hold with my host company only to get no resolution to my problem =(

Btw, It snowed here last weekend. My wife works at Bear Mountain Ski Resort, and she was able to get us a ride on one of the lifts up and back. I took some photos and posted them here. (There are also some photos from our yard and my dog enjoying the snow.)

The last shot is a multi photo stitched pano, unfortunatly the lift is moving pretty fast so it didnt’ stitch perfectly (lots of “ghosting”)
