Looks like a new cam on the east side showing Mt. Williamson and University Peak, from Owens Valley:

Is there any way they can lose the billboard?!?!

    • Steven says:

      Cool.

      • Karl says:

I mean seriously, WHO puts a billboard in front of the mountains like that?!?!?

        • Steven says:

That section of 395 has lots of billboards. Most of them advertising Southern California ski areas as you head south, and Bishop / Mammoth businesses as you head north.

        • The billboards are owned by the Piute chribe of Indians at Fort Independence and are part of the efforts, along with the casino, to raise money. They are on tribal land and as such, are not controled by outside govermental agencies.

          • Jean says:

            All of the billboards?

            • Karl says:

Interesting tidbit: To my knowledge University Peak is the only point on the crest of the Sierra Nevada that can be seen a great distance away from a road on the west side of the range. It is visible from the floor of Kings Canyon many miles to the west. No other point on the crest of the Sierra Nevada is visible that far away on the ground on the west side. This is made possible by the deep east-west trench formed by Kings Canyon.

Howdy folks, great site, thanks for all you do….

I like all [almost all} of the web sites.

As an FYI: The mammothweather.com web site/cam are not working. The current “today’s” temp is from July 5, 2010 {?} To bad, it was a nice site.

      Keep up the great work…
      Enjoy,
      Michael

These web cams are good for the weather in Owens Lake located in the southern Sierra Nevada.

Thank you so much for the new web cam at Mt. Williamson. My intro to each morning is going through this site, away from the sounds of trash trucks, car alarms, and leaf blowers! ARGH! So, the sign is just like a zit that won’t go away. So appreciate all your efforts, brings such calm into my day, and, can hardly wait to get to Parcher’s for fall color. One web cam ya really need. Thanks again!! :o )

OMG I LOVE THIS NEW CAM!!!!! What a great way to watch the weather, especially the upcoming winter!!! And such a clear close up of the vegetation – I think we will even see spring wildflowers!! This and the Bishop cam keep me sane until I actually live there…..

The pictures by Cory Freeman in the October 2010 issue of Sierra Heritage are fabulous. Be warned, they will make you start planning an Autumn trip to the Eastern Sierra if you haven’t already. I’m willing to help pay for gas. In the meantime we in the Bay Area are having more of the Endless Winter. I guess we are trying to offset all that really hot weather the rest of world is experiencing. Sorry, Steven.

  6. Jim says:

What happened to the Tioga Pass webcam?

    • Steven says:

I believe they got rid of it Jim. To much of a hassle to keep it running.

      • Karl says:

Actually if you go to UC San Diego’s climate research program at http://tenaya.ucsd.edu/tioga/ it says they are still hoping to restore the cam. The phone line that connects it needs to be fixed as does the cam. They are still hoping to have it up and running before the snow season starts. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
