Sierra Storm Totals

October 14th, 2009 Author:

Here are some storm totals from MammothWeather.com.

  • The Village at Mammoth received 4.18 inches of precip. with over a foot of snow on the ground.
  • The main lodge at Mammoth received 6.13 inches of precip with 15-21 inches of snow.
  • It is estimated the between 4-5 feet of snow fell above 10,000 feet in the Sierra.

Wow! Now that’s the way to start off the season.

I guess now the question is, when will Mammoth Mtn open? Knowing them, as fast as they can get some staff hired :-) It wouldn’t surprise me at all to see them skiing at Mammoth this weekend.

The Bishop WebCam is looking awesome this morning. If any of the you Bishop folks take a drive up Bishop Creek today, please let us know how much snow they got.

All of this early snow is awesome, but you know there are hikers in the back country right now who are were caught in this storm, let’s hope they make it out in good shape.  These folks could be in a life or death struggle right now, so maybe send some positive thoughts their way today.

The weather service is reporting that a remote station at Dinkey Creek (just under 6,000 feet near Shaver Lake) received just under a foot of rain from the storm and other stations in the area received over nine inches of rain.

Amazing rain totals in mountains between Cambria and Big Sur. Miners Ridge received over 21″ of rain for storm. Surrounding peaks at 16″ via NWS precip. maps.
