The ending…. And beginning.
I look outside, and the roof on Scout’s kennel is gone, as are his dog house and lounge. They’ve all been put into the garage for the winter. When I go outside, the grill is no longer there. It too spends the winter in the garage.
Tomorrow I will be mowing the lawn for the last time. I’m mowing it more to mulch up leaves than anything, but still, it’s the last time till spring. The mower will be going to bed tomorrow afternoon, along with his friend the weedwacker. Replacing these two will be Mr Snow Blower and his friend Mr Shovel. Fired up Mr Snow Blower this afternoon to make sure he’s running good. He’s in good voice, but I’d prefer to not hear him again for a month or so.
The trees are all bare now, (except for the beautiful little tree down the road who waited to show of it’s colors when everyone else was done). There are Canada Geese everywhere and though it’s only 4:30, the sky to the east is pink from the sunset.
Soon, the Lake Michigan ice machine will be cranking up. The ice selves will return to the shoreline and process of building ice volcanoes will begin. Then one night, the snow will fall, and we’ll wake up to a winter wonderland just waiting for a photographer to take it’s picture.
One of the many things I love about Wisconsin; the changing of the seasons and the anticipation of what the next one will bring.

What a wonderfully eloquent and romantic description of seasons change you’ve penned here, Steven. Thank you.
Beautiful vignette about the transition to Winter.
