The Sierra Gets a One, Two Punch

December 11th, 2009 Author: Steven

Snow is falling in the Sierra Nevada again this morning as the mountains get ready for a double shot this weekend. The first storm is currently dumping and a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect. Mammoth Mtn is reporting 6 inches of new snow this morning.

The bigger of the two storms moves in tomorrow and a Winter Storm Warning has been posted beginning Saturday at 10am and runing until Sunday at 10am. Up to 3 feet of new snow is forecast with the Saturday storm.

Total snowfall amounts for the two storms could reach 4-5 feet by Sunday.

had a couple snow flurries here at the house this morning, but only for a few minutes. Snow on the tungstens. I’m thinking monday i might come down w/ the white sickness and have to call in sick to work, like everyone else there! :)

Been snowing since 1 PM here in Smith Valley… it goes from big fat flakes to light snow and visa versa….not going anywhere today. Maybe not tomorrow either…..we have had snow on the ground since the day after Thanksgiving. Need all we can get to improve the water table so I am not complaining.

Feet so far here in Mammoth. When the wind blows, which it does from time to time, it’s a white out. This is a wet storm, not too cold, so the snow will stick in the high country. Just checked the weather and the amount of possible snow fall tonight is up to 21 inches. And that is just for tonight. I’m surprised 395 isn’t closed yet. And, of course, very glad not to be out driving or having to shake off my tent every couple of hours!

My bother said he has 5 inches of snow at his house in Bishop. They are expecting up to 8 inches.

I’ll have an update tomorrow. I haven’t felt well today.

It’s a very wet snow down here in Bishop! I’ve measured 4″ at our house so far. It’s stopped snowing for now. We’ll see what we get by morning light.
