Tioga Pass Plowing

May 14th, 2008 Author: Steven

The Tioga Road has been plowed all the way through and administrative traffic is being allowed to travel the road, but the road and pass still aren’t open.  There are still four active avalanche zones and all personnel on the road must have current avalanche training certification.

They are currently working on widening the road and doing any repairs that are needed. There still isn’t an opening date set. I’d say it’s very possible that the pass will open for Memorial Day weekend.

So if we have avy cert does that mean they’ll let members of the public through on the road? I wonder if I can just show them my ski patrol credentials. It sure would save some time if I could drive through the park this weekend instead of going around on Sonora Pass. Come on baby, open the road.

FYI, according to the Caltrans site http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi there aren’t any restrictions listed in Yosemite. Does that mean it is now open?

OK, I just called the Yosemite hotline. Tioga Pass road is now open with no restrictions.

WooHoo!
