Well, there’s a fine Happy New Year to ya !
A deserving photo it is.
Woo-hoo back at ya Steve. Great way to start the new year. BTW I recall you saying you haven’t seen a formation like that before or since, but has our midwest correspondent Lynne seen anything like that before?
Yes, I’ve seen many different frosty etchings that I thought were cool, never photographed them tho. Mother Nature can be quite creative with her artistic work. Steven is just helping me pay closer attention to it. Happy New Year to you and all of our website guests.
Well, if that isn’t a great sign of wonderful things to come for you in 2009, I don’t know what is. Well deserved recognition, Steven. Here’s to that fifty bucks and many more. “Woo-hoo” is right!
Woo Hoo is right!! Right on Steven, the right way to start the new year! It is a little hard to imagine ice, here… The Rose parade today was warm!! The high for us today was 75…. Just thought I would throw that out there!!
Happy New Year!!
They say that hundreds of people decide to move from the Midwest to California every year because of the beautiful weather they see during the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl. After having watched two Rose Parades and Rose Bowls living back here, I now understand why.
But……
Being from SoCal, I also understand that Pasadena can be one of the smoggiest areas in all of the LA Basin when the wind is blowing the right way.
So true, born and raised in that valley, it can get really bad with smog. It is a nice area to visit once in a while, but I am glad I dont live there any more due to the smog.
The smog is amazing when you drive down from Big Bear…especially if you take hwy 18 (Rim of the World) out by Lake Arrowhead. You can see the layer of brown cloud over the entire valley. I’m amazed the schools in the area don’t teach the sky is brown =(
Great photo Steven, Congrats. Good luck on a 3rd winner.
and let’s not forget the ridiculous cost of housing in all of so cal.
Wonderful photo and have a geat New year.
And thank you for your wonderful Sierra site
Steven – way to go! we all knew that was a good shot. and even all the comments on earthshots were positive this time. you’re moving up! =^)
speaking of the weather, i always knew it could get pretty nasty in the midwest in winter, but through you i’ve been paying more attention and becoming more aware of it. it’s given me a better appreciation of why the various branches of my family moved to socal 100 to 120 years ago from iowa and minnesota. having lived in the oc my entire life, i’m not sure i could adopt to the winters, pretty as they are, even though i can tolerate come cold. still, the other seasons look nice. for now, i will go back to tolerating the overcrowdedness here. :^(
Fantastic shot Steven. Well deserved also. Congratulations on having it picked. I know you feel so good inside right now! Make sure to grab a screen shot of that one!
