Wow, I get to leave the very first comment on the Wisconsin cams page?!? I’m honored. Seriously the page looks great. Hey, are there in cams in The Dells area? Or is that The Baribous area? Now I’m getting my geography all mixed up.

Hey Karl,
I thought with all of the resorts in the Dells that there would be some cams so I checked many of the resort sites and none of them had cams. I was very surprised by that. And Baraboo is a little south of the Dells.

Not exactly sure where Chetek, Wisconsin is, but it was featured as a new cam on the Earthcam directory:

Looks like they even have a miniature lighthouse there!

Chetek is the first big town north of Bloomer on US 53.

Wow, the Mille Lacs webcam is amazing to watch lately. As it gets colder and colder and colder, ice is forming on the rocks as the waves splash the shore. If you click on the Hunter’s Point webcam - six miles to the north - the small boat harbor is now frozen over, while you can see the unfrozen lake surface (and its waves) just beyond the breakwater. The Hunter’s Point cam is at http://www.hunterspointresort.com/bobbercam.html

So, these cams will very clearly show the process of a northern lake freezing over in the winter. Fascinating.

The bobbercam at Mille Lacs is tucked in a bay and the ice formed sooner than our spot. However last night we had a big change. Check out http://www.mnlakecams.com today.

It will be interesting to see how things go and if the ice holds, winds will be picking up on Sun.

That’s what single digit lows will do to a lake Karl :-)
It’s pretty amazing how fast these lakes a freeze.

I was just down by Lake Michigan and was wondering what the water temp was. It’s getting stirred up pretty good today though. There are big swells out there.

Hey Karl,
Brad added a blog to his Mille Lacs site today. Thought you might be interested in it.

Cool, I just posted to it. Hey how come I’m the only person posting to the Wisconsin cams section?

Not sure Karl. People are coming to the page. Guess no one is talkative.

Have you checked out the view from the top of the Sears Tower in Chicago yet? It’s pretty awesome.

I had seen that one - it’s awesome. It looks like a lot of the local FOX stations are putting in webcams in cities around the country. One of my favorites is the one in LA - they have views of the beach, the mountains and one of LAX where you can see planes landing and taking off in real time video.

I just found out about the Chetek cam. Been waiting for a long time for it. Chetek is a resort town on Hwy 53 north of Eau Claire. Back in the 60’s during the summer months, the police used to have to direct traffic on Saturdays with all the Illinois tourists. Now they have a 53 bypass.

Steve if you check out the Muskegon cam on Earthcam, it seems to be down now which is tragic. You can look at some of the archived snapshots of the sunsets and the bright vivid sand. It was the greatest webcam in the world in my opinion. Hope they get it going again.

Steve,
That Muskegon cam is run by the NOAA, so I would think that they’ll get it fixed. I hope so, I liked it too.

Sorry,

I’m talking about the camera that was hosted by surfmuskegon.com.
Go to http://www.earthcam.com/usa/michigan/muskegon/.

They have a sister cam in Grand Haven that is till up however.

Go to the Muskegon one and click on the archived snapshots.
You’ll see what I’m talking about.

Where have you ever seen a streaming web cam with more vivid colors of sand and sunset?

I never heard of that cam being hosted by NOAA, so I think you’re talking about the ones by the channel into Muskegon Lake.

Oh, I thought you were talking about the one I have on the list. Yes, that cam is pretty cool. It seems to be working for me though. There’s a picture and i can control the camera. Not sure if it’s streaming though.

No

It’s not working. It’s been stuck there for days and the surfmuskegon website doesn’t work.

The only way you can see the beauty is to click on the archives.

Their sister website at surfgrandhaven still works, but I wish they would keep the Muskegon one instead.

It has more vivid colors of sand and sky.

This is kind of a fun cam - I think it’s at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. It shows motion and is controllable: http://128.101.80.75/home/homeJ.html

The Mille Lacs webcam has just added a great time lapse feature. Really cool. It’s at the bottom of their page. This must be add-time-lapse-to-your-webcam month.

Looks like all the ice fishing shacks are off Mille Lacs. Is the ice fishing season over already?

Comment by Steven

I don’t think ice fishing is over for the season, but in a post a few weeks back Brad said they pull the shacks off Mille Lacs Lake for safety reasons this time of year. You never know when a warm up will happen.
