The OC Register has an article about how this may be a banner year for wildflowers in the burn areas of Southern California. The article includes maps to where some of the better locations may be.

I’m headed to Yosemite Valley and Dewey Point for a little snowcamping these next three days.
Will report on flowers when I return Monday.
Maybe a few photos as well.
Thanks for your good work!

Yosemite Report

LOTS more snow this year than last. With some melt already taking place, the falls we beginning to show. Quite a bit of snow still in the Valley. Maybe over two feet in the more shady places.

Flowers…none in the Valley. A few yellows and the beginnings of some whites (though taught all the names many, many times by my mom when I was a kid, I still don’t remember many flower names) and one fully blooming lupin along highway 140. Along the way, on Pacheco Pass (highway 152), a mass of poppies like I have never seen. And green green hills. Gorgeous.

Our night out at Dewey Point was so beautiful. Got a few great photos and if time permits, I’ll post them here. Next weekend I have the opportunity to do a four day trip out to Glacier Pass. I’m hoping the storm window is closed for this trip so we get great views. Will see. Also, will report on flowers/etc. as a comparison.

Oh, and the burrito from Los Banos was, as always, outstanding!

Thanks for listening.
